Glenmore's 5 hectare vineyard in Yallingup, Western Australia occupies a small portion of this historic and picturesque property.
The vineyard has valley views to the Indian Ocean which is 2.5 km to the west of Glenmore. It is planted on well-drained, gravelly red brown loam over yellow/blue mottled clay. The vineyard is north facing, non-irrigated and the natural slopes and windbreaks provide protection from the prevailing winds.
Ian planted the first hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1990, with additional plantings in 1994 and 1999. The vineyard comprises 3.6 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and a combination of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec occupies the remaining 1.4 ha. The balance of the property is currently an operating free range grass fed cattle grazing enterprise.
All vines are trained to a Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellis system. All the pruning, foliar management, fruit thinning and harvesting is undertaken by hand with meticulous attention to detail.
